PERFORMANCE
We are excited to that the Fund has delivered 99 straight positive months of return that are uncorrelated to the stock market and economic environment. As of July 2023, the Fund has generated a 112.11% Total Return. The Fund outperformed the S&P 500 over a 7 year period (Jan. 2015 to June 2022) without the five major drawdowns that S&P 500 investors experienced.
The Fund’s portfolio of loans has shifted dramatically from the first three years of operation where the higher returns were generated from portfolio that had considerably higher risk than our current strategy. This included super high leverage loans to a small group of underlying borrowers. In 2018, we shifted the Aloha LTD Income Fund to its current strategy which continues to provide high yield current income, but with significant downside protections in place.
STRATEGY
The Aloha LTD Income Fund is used as a source of origination capital for Aloha Capital, an affiliated Nationwide Lender, that underwrites and originates $200M (annually and growing) of short-term bridge loans collateralized on investment properties with personal guarantees by the underlying borrower(s).
A majority of the loans linked to the Fund meet securitization market or institutional investor credit guidelines allowing for a significant portion of the portfolio to be sold to the secondary market within days or weeks of origination.
This strategy of selling away tail-end risk, along with Aloha Capital’s institutional underwriting capabilities, results in a portfolio that delivers a high-yield and lower risk return (compared to holding notes to term) from a diversified pool of notes early in their life cycle.
